Closer Than You Think
During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them (Acts 16:9-10).
Wait. You do not have to pack a bag to reach people who need Jesus. Commit Your 2nd Sundays of the Month. All that you probably need is your willingness to reach them. I am told that in my neighborhood we have at least 1,500 who have never heard of Jesus Christ. In fact, technology is able to help me pinpoint their addresses. Therefore, the materials to help me start the conversation irrespective of the language barrier are also widely available.
Remember that many of these recent immigrants to America who live in every neighborhood of America came from several parts of the world, and very likely from areas where no one ever talks about Jesus Christ. For example, do you know that there are 7600 un-reached people groups totaling more than 2 billion people around the world, who have scarcely heard about the gospel? Further, 200 million people groups do not have the Bible translated in their local languages. In fact, out of over 6000 languages in the world, only 513 languages have the Bible translated in their mother tongues.
Therefore, for me and people in America, the recent wave of immigrant population surge, and the diversity policy of the American government has turned the U.S. to become one of the largest international mission fields in the world. Foreign born immigrants who speak languages other than English in the home are the fastest growing segment of our population.
